<p> DIED. JOAN HARRISON, 83, screenwriter who helped pen the scripts
for Rebecca, Foreign Correspondent and other films directed
by Alfred Hitchcock; in London. Hired as a secretary by Hitchcock
in 1933, a job she later said she did poorly, Harrison quickly
proved her value on Rebecca, which won the Academy Award for
Best Picture in 1940, as well as on the scripts for Suspicion,
Saboteur and Shadow of a Doubt. She later worked as one of Hollywood's
first female producers, with credits such as Phantom Lady (1944),
Ride the Pink Horse (1947) and Circle of Danger (1951).
